L.A. Zoo

In the middle of the last week, we were able to take a trip to the zoo!
Carter's class was going on a field trip to the L.A. Zoo, so Ana invited Keira & I to join them. Carter rode the bus with his class, & Keira & I rode along with Ana in her Jeep. In this shot you can see the lovely foothills of Yucaipa. Such a lovely morning.

Waiting in the line to get our tickets.

Keira: "Mama, I wanna go back to see the mirror cats!" :-)

These flamingos were beautiful, but they sure were smelly!
Pee-eww!

We were waiting to catch a ride on the shuttle to go up the hill, as mama wasn't feeling too well, so Keira took a ride on the endangered species carousel! Happy girl!

"Mama, I wanna ride on the shovel!"

The giraffes, her fave animals this visit. Daddy on the left, mama in the middle, & baby off to the right. The stuffed animal souvenir Keira picked out this time was a mama & baby giraffe. So sweet.

Sitting on a bench, looking up through the bamboo, shortly before I was sick. Lucky for me, Keira is a patient girl most of the time, & quite empathetic when her mama is ill. For the love... of all days!

The lion exhibit was closed, but at least we got to see the tigers.

Wish I was napping like this bear, but at least I was feeling a bit better at this point.

Elephants! They didn't have any African elephants, but we got to see the big daddy Asian elephant.

Another go around on the carousel, this time riding the monarch caterpillar! This was definitely her favorite thing to do at the zoo.

On the gecko, outside the Lair, where we got to see an actual horned lizard & archer fish, just like those from one of Keira's most cherished books: What Do You Do With A Tail Like This? We also saw turtles, salamanders, snakes, etc. So cool!
She really liked the Lair.

Fun photos near the petting zoo!

Squee!

Petting goats & sheep was a neat experience. This was the first time Keira would actually pet them! Yay!

Aww.

Follow the leader!
I like the giraffe silhouette in the upper part of the shot, too!

Keira was hungry for fries, so we stopped in the cafe to cool off a bit. I text this photo to Bob, who replied, "Those are the biggest fries I've ever seen!" LOL They were tasty!

We also saw black swans, an alligator, a peacock, a brown pelican, & chimpanzees among many others. So many wonderful animals to see at the zoo! Hope to do it again soon... & not have food poisoning next time! Ugh! Even after we got home, I had a fever for a couple hours, before it was finally over. So glad Keira had a great time in spite of her mama! Until next time...

  1. Shiloh, that was so funny about "I want to see the mirror cats" One of my favorite TV shows of all time was a show about Mir-cats. It was about a family of Mir-cats and they had names. They seemed like REAL people and it was easy to become invested in their domestic activities...they even would sneak out to date etc. Did you ever see Mir-cats?

Keira was so cute sitting on the Panda Merry-go-round. She had so much fun at the zoo.

I loved the BIG fries. In fact I love fries like Keira does. While in California whenever we went to the "fast food" place I always ordered fries, and Marie would exclaimed "You are not having fries, you are having a hamburger!" You would have thought Marie was the OLDER Sister.

What do you think you got food poisoning from? Or do you think it might be from NOT having a gall bladder any more that you got sick. The Gall bladder does help in digesting certain foods. I always wondered what was happening since I didn't have a gall bladder anymore. How often do you get sick since the operation?

    Good trip to the Zoo.

    1. No, I've never seen Mir-cats. Sounds awfully cute though! Funny story about the fries & Marie! I'm not sure where I got the food poisoning from. Perhaps from the Panda Express, where Ana took us to eat the evening before? Not sure. That morning I ate some fresh raspberries, thoroughly rinsed, a small can of low sodium V-8, some veggie chips, & a soda. So I'm not sure what it was really. I don't think it was associated with the gall bladder, or lack thereof. The gall bladder is only bile storage. The liver still produces bile that your body needs, there's just no storage unit for it anymore. So if you need extra, it's not going to be there. But from what I understand, it doesn't typically cause any trouble. I could be wrong, of course. That's the only instance of my being ill since the operation. Thank goodness! :-)
