LA Freeway Art

I almost forgot I wanted to create a post about our day trip to LA at the end of last month with Uncle Joe & Tia Chita, mostly to show some more shots of the LA freeway art I captured. They aren't the greatest, but about as well as can be expected when you're in a moving vehicle.

Sweet, napping Keira.

& of course, Joe & Chita wouldn't be without little Chewie!

This is his perch in the car, right between mami & papa.

This was a series of larger-than-life kids, just playing on the side of the freeway! Cool. Too bad I couldn't get a clear shot, without the other traffic in our midst. Oh well. I like it anyway.

These next few shots are of pieces that are created on canvas-like material, except weatherproof I presume, & hung onto the walls, rather than being painted directly on them.

This was just an interesting looking building we happened to be passing by.

Architecture can be artistic as well!

This was a large mural under an equally large bridge. On the other side was a man with the same hands & expression. I like it!

Sweet, napping photogenic face. I just can't help myself sometimes.

Whenever we are even close to Catalina's, & have a little time to spare, we stop in. It's the local Argentine store. Our faves: milanesa sandwiches, mortadella, panettone, & of course, yerba mate. Even when we were young, my parents would come to Catalina's, even if they were only in Vegas! Close enough, I suppose!

Bob & Keira in front of Siren Studios on Sunset Blvd. We've been here for castings a couple times. This time it was for Baby Gap.

I knew immediately that she wouldn't be called back. Keira is so cute, but just has too much stranger anxiety that gets in the way. It seems to be getting better as she gets older, but who knows. Only time will tell if it will be too great of an obstacle to overcome. We'll just have to wait & see.

  1. Shiloh: that was so fascinating. I also found the landscaping etc so beautiful in California to help keep people awake and help in preventing accidents. I found the Oleander bushes so interesting even if Ted landed up in one.

Keira is your baby and Chewie is Joe's and Chita's. Tell me more about his beaded necklace. I suppose it is a leash, right? Where did they find it? It was so beautiful
Keira's profile truly captures her beauty. Her eyebrows are so perfect. Where do perfect eyebrows exist without plucking?

The larger than life children were very interesting to look at. Bob should see what is involved in submitting art murals. He could paint them at home and submit. Maybe he doesn't have time and help with Keira. Children do take a lot of your time, but it is so rewarding. I think children are more important than anything anyway.

That was some architectural building. Most fascinating.

I am glad you got to visit Catalina and the Argentine restaurant and have Yerba Mate. I still remember when you describe what Yerba Mate was and the material involved in making it

The woman face was fascinating to look at. You must be an artist also, since you find art so interesting.

We love so many of the same things: children, animals, flowers, art.

    1. The little "beaded necklace" Chewie is wearing is actually just a harness & not beaded at all. It is cute though, & makes it easy to just snap the leash on him. I think Keira has perfect eyebrows, too, lucky girl! The little Argentine store is actually more like a tiny grocery store & less like a restaurant, although they do sell sandwiches & such from the deli. Yes we do like many of the same things, don't we? Must run in the family!:-)

  2. Dear Shiloh:

I have a few more things to say, but I get nervous and think the computer is going to log me off, so I log off and pick up later.

Not only do we have the above mentioned in common, but also photography, and writing.

When you say that Keira has stranger anxiety, do you mean "stranger danger", or her shyness around people she doesn't know well. I think stranger danger would be hard to teach because some people seem safe when NOT. If it is her shyness around people she doesn't know she could overcome that. Maybe, or she might be like Bob who doesn't like attention from others. Or like you who isn't afraid of attention etc. Interesting. I put my faith in you and Bob to know what she needs.

    1. Funny you mentioned the computer kicking you off, because I was thinking the same thing as I read your first comment! haha! Oh, about Bob & the artwork, I'm not sure. I just leave it to him. He hasn't done much of his art since we've been married, but he's also never had a studio & scarcely any supplies since then either. As far as Keira's stranger anxiety, I'm talking shyness, not stranger danger. I have only discussed some stranger danger issues with her when it comes to going outside by herself in the yard at home, since the busy service station & freeway are just across the street. But most of the time, I try not to worry her too much. She's comfortable around strangers in familiar territory, like the grocery store or at church, but we just haven't been in the photography studios enough for her to be comfortable there. Oh well. Like I said, time will tell if it's meant to be.
