I have toyed with the idea off & on for several months about taking daily photos. When I came across the idea initially, I thought 'Why put that kind of pressure on myself?' However, I have come to realize that it's really not much pressure at all, when you aim to capture the moments that are present without striving to create moments that are not. I also like that these shots just show life, our life, unfiltered, unfettered, unplanned. It's just us, & where we are, & what we do each day. Little things that don't seem like much, yet they are. Snippets that collectively create a mural that tell a story, our story. Here are some of our snippets from September:
From when Bob brought home the new {used} bunk beds for Keira.
Our little Namco joystick has given up the ghost since I took this photo, & after only 10 years, no less! What are we poor game playing girls to do now, I ask you!?! heehee!
So relieved to be using a camera again, & not my cell phone!
Doesn't this just remind you of one of those fluffy flowers from the Dr. Seuss books? It sure does me!
This, however, is another cell phone shot.
First stop, upon getting the truck rental!
A simple trip to the market. I love nice floral departments!
One day, Keira asked where we lived. So I started the explanation with the earth & ended with Overcrest Drive. The following day she just randomly announces: "I like Overcrest Drive!".
She makes me laugh.
Mmm...cottage cheese & raspberries!
Another day, Bob brings home a new {used} vacuum cleaner. Score, again! This is Keira's favorite thing to do with it now. She even said she wanted to be a pirate princess for Halloween & have this as her sword. Um...I don't think so! ha!
Made from scratch & topped with whipped cream! {Keira's dinner suggestion, of course!}
Self explanatory.
Sometimes mamas just shouldn't be trying to take pictures, I suppose!
A hot, long day on the town.
My biscuits & gravy were a hit with the entire family when we were living with Joe & Chita in Beaumont. Just making them again brought back memories. I guess it has been a while since I've cooked them!
Yup, this is what usually keeps me up until the wee hours of Sunday morning. I bet you can guess who is dragging a bit at church! With night owl Keira, I'm in good company though!
Now, if it would just get cool enough for soup & cocoa already! Considering tomorrow it will probably be over 100 degrees here, it's not likely any time too soon! Yikes!
& now, looking forward to all of the goodness & fun that comes with October!

Dear Shiloh: I loved your snippets of September. I enjoyed seeing your daily lives. I loved the bunk beds thrown on the beautiful green grass and Keira having fun jumping all over them.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the Zinnia's looked like they were out of Dr. Seuss. Didn't you say that some were as tall as you? Such fertile soil and watered by Bob.
It was so neat the way you explained the earth and Overcrest Dr. You are home schooling Keira. It was so cute when Keira announced "I love Overcrest Dr. it makes me laugh". Keira is truly beyond her yrs. She recognizes she has a happy place to call home.
The raspberries & cottage cheese and the biscuits and gravy looked so yummy I went to the store to get ingredients to make them today.
You inspired me!.
I can't wait for Halloween to come so I can see how Keira looks as a Pirate Princess. She is also soooo imaginative.
Fall isn't coming this year--no cocoa or soup. It is only 80 here, but still too hot. We haven't had rain in months. I learned while living in CA that I can't handle temperature over 84.
Love Joy
Thanks, Joy! Yes, some of those zinnia are 4-5 ft tall! Bob definitely has a green thumb!I'm glad you were inspired! I hope it was yummy for you, too! I need to get some more raspberries & cottage cheese, too! Keira shared a bit with me, but she didn't appreciate it as much as I did. When she heard me say cheese, she was obviously thinking about cheddar or fontina or feta, all of which she loves, but cottage cheese threw her for a little loop I suppose. They don't really have pirate princess costumes, so I told Keira I would work on it for next year. She picked out a charmed witch costume for this year. I think fall will be here eventually, but if last year is any indication, it won't be until the end of October. No temps over 84! That sounds lovely. It makes me think of Hawaii! Aahh!
DeleteDear Shiloh:
ReplyDeleteBecause of your inspiration, I made biscuits and gravy yesterday. Yummy. I hadn't made them in so long, I had forgotten how good they were. I love raspberries and cream, but I haven't tried with cottage cheese yet. Usually one must acquire a taste for cottage cheese and I wondered what your opinion was? I think I was 6-9 before my Mom introduced me to Cottage Cheese. Have you ever tried Cottage Cheese and Tuna? I learned to love Cottage Cheese when I became weight conscious and realized it was more healthy then other cheeses.
No temperature over 84, makes Hawaii sound ideal. Too bad we can't just move where ever, without it being such an ordeal. I can't believe you actually moved all your stuff to Hawaii.
Where do you usually grocery shop? The flowers looked like the Safeway display?
Can you send snippets more then once a month? I don't seem to be able to wait that long for what is going on in your life.
Love Joy
Hi, Joy! I'm so glad I could be your source of inspiration in the kitchen! They sure are yummy! Yeah, I never like cottage cheese as a child either, but I have found that if you make cottage cheese jello salad {that is adding it to jello, whipped cream & fruit} almost anyone will eat it!:-) That's probably cheating though. I've never tried it with tuna however. Sounds kinda gross!:-) The grocery store was Vons, but I think they are the same as Safeway. Well, all my posts are snippets in a sense. Sorry I've fallen a bit behind. I will try to get another post up today. I've been mostly cooking & cleaning, so I have more food pics! The first of the month is always such a busy time, trying to get to the bank & the store to pay bills & get groceries. I'm also trying to figure out what we're doing for Keira's upcoming birthday! Argh! Talk to you again soon! xo
DeletePS. I love your idea about moving anywhere! I personally have a love/hate relationship with moving. We never really moved much to Hawaii, just essentials, like computers & tools for Bob's work, we had shipped over. After all, we were homeless there for a while. We accumulated some things while we were there though, in the way of small furnishings, tikis, & such, but alas, we had to leave it behind & never were able to find a way to get back there to retrieve it or have it shipped, so it was lost. The only part that kills me is the personal things, like photos, books, & computers. Bob had lots of great tools, too. Bummer. Oh well, hopefully they have found good new homes. Life is more than things.:-)
