2012...In a Nutshell

Quite the hiatus I took from my blogging, wasn't it? It was unplanned, of course. I've been working on Keira's baby album since Christmas. It has been so much fun to work on! Remembering all our beloved friends & all that we've been through that has led us to where we are now. I love that about Project Life... that it reminds us to be grateful for the journey, the experience that is our lives, & for all those we meet along the way. After the new year, I have felt somewhat out of sorts though. Not quite sure what's up with that, but I am finding my groove once again. I have also been spending some time trying to organize & reorganize photos on my computer, which is no easy task I say! I like to think I'm somewhat organized, but when I look at the mess that is my desktop currently, or the mess of photos on my computer, I know it's just wishful thinking. Oh well. The Project Life-ing & photo organization continue.

I was hoping to post about the best of 2012, but alas... due to the limited space on my computer, I have deleted all the photos from the first quarter of the year! They are surely backed up onto a disk somewhere in the piles, but as they are not readily available to me, I consider them missing. These missing photos would include shots of the several small quilts I made early in the year, that I would have liked to include as a highlight. I'll have to get back to that some other time. For now, here are twelve highlights from the rest of 2012...

1. Good times with Dalton.
He grows just as fast as Keira! What's up with that?
{P.S. you can see the little quilt I made for Keira folded up behind his head :-)}

2. Shutters & blossoms.
I love taking pictures of flowers & nature. We were lucky to have an abundance of loveliness around our home & yard for me to shoot to my hearts content. These are feverfew blossoms, one of my faves.

3. Pinspiration.
I discovered Pinterest in 2012, & I'm so glad I did! So much inspiration to be found there! I call my pinterest-inspired ideas pinspiration. Here is one of them... bath paints! Keira sure enjoyed these. All you need is a something to put the "paints" on, a paint brush (optional, as fingers will work just fine), shaving cream & food coloring. It makes the water look just awful, but it washes away clean!

4. Project Life!
By far my most amazing Pinterest discovery!
Since finding Project Life, I am scrapbooking like I have never done before, & I'm not looking back! In less than a year's time, I have completed & printed three digital photo books that span 9 months time, am still working on two more photo books spanning another 6 months, & am halfway finished with the Project Life albums that will cover Keira's first year of life! More than I ever could have imagined, all made possible by Becky Higgins & Project Life. If you're interested in an easy scrapbooking system that will simplify the entire process, you can check it all out on beckyhiggins.com. This was the very first photo book I did, using the Project Life layouts via Shutterfly. {This is the turquoise edition.}

5. Sunbeams!
I was called to help teach the Sunbeams in primary in 2012. As Keira wasn't interested in going to nursery...ever... they allowed her to accompany me to class. She was a year younger than all the other kids, but adjusted rather well. She enjoyed the classes immensely. It got a bit stressful for all of us as our class swelled to 14 children, but when it was split into two smaller classes, it was a relief. These Sunbeams have since graduated to CTR 4, & Keira joins the incoming Moonbeams. We're all still adjusting & getting to know one another, but it's good. As co-teacher, it seems there's always lessons, or journals, or photos, or copies, or projects... any number of things to be done in preparation for our little guys & dolls!

6. Lily Company, my photoblog.
I also started blogging in mid-2012. I've never been to good at keeping a journal, so I'm glad I've at least kept up pretty well with blogging. A photoblog was a natural choice, as I don't take much time to write & often have photos to share. It's been good for those friends & family that have subscribed, to keep up with what we're doing.

7. Dental work.
It took us several months from start to finish, but we were finally able to get Keira the work she needed for those deteriorating front teeth. Yay! This is the bubblegum flavored nitrous oxide still wearing off.

8. Ellie!
This would be the 11-foot-tourist-attraction-of-a-sunflower that Bob grew in the front yard! We actually started out with more sunflowers, but Ellie was the only one who survived the gophers! Keira named her. People were often stopping by or coming from across the street asking if they could take a picture or asking Bob how he got it to grow so big! When it came time to harvest, Ellie yielded a quart of delicious seeds!

9. London 2012.
The olympics! One of the best reasons ever to have cable television... well, that & the superbowl. Keira was inspired by the American girls gymnastics team. The end of our sofa was a fair substitute for a vault.

10. Santa Monica.
Our only trip to the beach in 2012, & in mid-September, too! Keira had a blast!

11. Trips to L.A.
There were several in 2012, mostly for castings & auditions. No bookings to show for it {I think Keira has a bit too much stranger anxiety still}, but we enjoyed the experience & spending time with Joe & Chita. This was the one time it was just Keira & I.

12. kpics!
Keira started taking her own photos in 2012. I call them kpics. I love to see things from her perspective, to see the things she values, & her imagination. One of the things she likes to do, that always cracks me up when I see the photos, is stick her foot in it! Sometimes the left, sometimes the right, but she frequently does this, & I think it's so darn cute!
