We were finally able to take Keira to the Live Oak Canyon Pumpkin Patch this year! It was a lot of fun! We walked 2 miles to get there...not too bad! Only a half mile further than the bus stop & all downhill! Once we arrived, the first stop was the petting zoo!
Keira only pet the goats though...& only the baby goats at that! Not that she wouldn't have pet the bunnies or other animals if she could have reached them. She did enjoy the goats however, even the one fellow who nibbled the shirt on her back! She exclaimed, "That tickles!" I love this shot. Why hello there, friendly goat!
Then it was time for a pony ride...Keira's first ever! She liked it, although you would never be able to tell from her expressionless face!
Checking out the pumpkins that were more her size. These days, Keira is into making lots of silly facial expressions, especially if they include her tongue or lips doing any sort of acrobatics!
I had Keira lift up this big gourd, which is actually very light. She got lots of looks from people nearby. Ha!
They had all sorts of these face-in-the-hole photo opps throughout, so I kept having Keira get her face in there so I could get some cute pictures! Here's Scarecrow Keira!
There were corn rows, sunflowers, & pumpkins everywhere! It was grand!
Here's Miss Keira Kitty!
Stopping to smell the sunflowers, not that they're all that fragrant. Shhh, don't tell Keira! She has to check out EVERY flower with her nose, aromatic or not.
Pirate Keira!
And traipsing through the pumpkin patch!
Keira watched a little girl, probably a year or two older than she, go up & down this intermediate blow-up slide a few times. Emboldened, she insisted, against my better judgement, that she wanted to try it. "Pleeease, mama!? I wanna try! I can do it!" So mama caved & Keira gave it a go. She did great, all the way up until about two steps from the top, when she turned around to look at me & realized how high she had climbed & how far her parents were. Then she began to bawl! I cheered her on to get up those last couple steps, but then she had changed her mind about coming down & wanted help. So it was the attendant, Billy, to the rescue! Here they are sliding down together.
Trepidatiously giving the bouncy house a try next.
A different pony riding experience, & a little perspective as to the scale of the blow-up slide in the background.
Peeking out the playhouse window.
Sheepishly Singing Keira!
Another playhouse window!
Despite the slide incident, we had a great time! We ended up with a goat head (not literal, of course) in the front tire of the stroller, from the traipsing in the pumpkin patch, & called upon a neighbor to rescue us. Ah, memories in the making, for sure!
Dear Shiloh:
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love your post on going to the pumpkin patch. I used to walk down to Dissmore's and back each day as my exercise program. I thought it was 1 mile there and 1 mile back, so I can't imagine 2 miles. It may have been down hill there but what about walking back? Were you very tired when you got back? Did Bob go with you?
I have an interesting story about goats to tell you. One day Chris and Kathy were outside with a goat. Some how that goat got between Chris and Kathy. That stupid goat would run toward Chris and then I would run to stop him and then he would run toward Kathy and I would run yelling & screaming toward Kathy. This went on and on until a kind neighbors ran and got the goat & took him home. It was an adult goat with horns so it was scary. I have never liked goats since. Thank goodness for the kind neighbor.
I liked the big (huge) gourd. I know they are light, but I bet it looked funny for tiny Keira holding it.
I can relate to Keira thinking she could climb the big slide, and then realizing how high she had climbed and then bawling for Mom. Thank goodness for Billy and that she trusted him to get her down the slide.
I loved seeing little Keira's face in the scarecrow, the kitty, sheep, and the pirate. Is she still going to be a princess pirate for Halloween?
How many pumpkins did you get for carving and pie?
Love Joy
We called our neighbors to come rescue us since the front tire on the stroller went flat. We had our air pump, but the hole was too big & we didn't have our repair kit.:-/ So we didn't have to walk the 2 miles home this time, thank heavens! Thank goodness for kind neighbors is right! Even these goats got to be a little much at times. There were a lot of them! Yes, Bob came with. The only photo I showed him in was in the pumpkin patch with Keira, but there are others. I have about 60 photos, but that's a bit too much for one blog post I think. You will see more on Facebook or in my Project Life layouts for sure. I can relate to your goat story but it was dogs at the park that started charging toward Keira as we sat on the grass! I dove in between her & the dogs so fast! I didn't even have time to think! And there I was, yelling, growling, & barking at the dogs to make sure they didn't get to close to Keira. Their owners probably thought I was psycho-mom, but I didn't much care what anyone thought. Keira did look funny holding the big gourd. Although it wasn't heavy, it sure was awkward, & she didn't have any trouble grunting & groaning as if it weighed 100 pounds! That's probably what made her a spectacle more than anything! Yes, thank goodness for Billy, & Keira being receptive to a helpful hand. No, Keira picked out a charmed witch costume this year. I told her I would work on making her a pirate princess for next year. We only picked up one large pumpkin for our porch, & one small pumpkin for Keira. I'm going to get our pie pumpkins from Trader Joe's. They have a better price there.
